Beyoncé's new single, and accompanying video, is bold and unapologetically black. Due to her celebrity, she may only be able to dine at the most exclusive of 5-star restaurants these days, though on "Formation," she reminded fans of her Southern-fried roots. "When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster," sings Bey on the opening verse, in what's become the song's most talked about lyric.
Of course, getting namedropped by the Queen warrants a response, and hours after the song's release, the seafood chain managed to come up with a reference to "Formation" on its Twitter account, writing, "'Cheddar Bey Biscuits,' has a nice ring to it, don't you think."
The pun, incorporating Beyoncé's nickname into the restaurant's famous cheddar "bay" biscuits, is rather cringeworthy, though, damn, those flaky treats do look downright delicious. Still, Red Lobster is gonna need to revamp its social media presence if it wants to properly capitalize on the Beyoncé shout-out it has been graced with.
