It's that time of year. The time of year when writers/bloggers/journalists furiously go back through a year's worth of music in order to somehow validate the good stuff and side-step the bad, while attempting to rank everything, summarize it in 100 words or less, and, oh yeah, not show any bias whatsoever. Fun times.
It's no easy feat, but someone's got to do it, or rather, every single publication on the web has to do it. It tends to ruffle a few feathers. Remember that time Wale didn't make Complex's year-end list and proceeded to call their office and harass their voicemail? This time around, put Ebro in Wale's spot, and Complex at the HOT 97 radio station.
Ebro had quite the issue with Rae Sremmurd's debut album, SremmLife, sliding in at #3 on their Top 50 Albums list. He attempted to debate the matter with the Complex folks, bringing up a few questionable points. First, it seems Rae Sremm's album was too "fun" to be that high on the list. It's gotta be some more respectable hip-hop shit up there, according to Old Mane Ebro. Secondly, Rae Sremmurd apparently do not write their lyrics, a claim which Mike WiLL Made It has gone on to counter, but nonetheless this factors into Ebro's resistance. They also debate Rae Sremmurd's placement juxtaposed to those beside it-- it seems improbable to Ebro that you could go from #3 SremmLife to #1 To Pimp A Butterfly.
Apart from the interview with Complex, which you can watch below, Mike WiLL has spoken up to the defense of his Ear Drummers duo. He asked Ebro via twitter, "if Sremm didn't write they raps who tf did..." to which the radio host responded, "Drummer's Ear & You... And them some. Stop it..."
