It's tough to keep up with the massive crop of Atlanta rappers who have skyrocketed into the eyes of the mainstream over the past few years. Today's lesson is on a fringe persona by the name of PeeWee Longway, a rapper who's been red-hot in the city for a few years now. And as he's still honing in on his unique brand of googly-eyed trap, 2016 looks to be his most successful year yet.
PeeWee was the last rapper to sign to 1017 Records before Gucci Mane's incarceration. Though he lost one of the most powerful cosigns in Atlanta, PeeWee has continued to pick up speed ever since. His biggest achievement to date has to be his new album, Mr. Blue Benjamin, which boasts features from Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and GuWop himself. Before that, he earned industry-wide recognition by collaborating with the likes of Young Thug and Travi$ Scott.
It's now time to get familiar with the King-Sized Blue M&M. Here's 10 essential tracks from MPA boss PeeWee Longway.
"I Just Want The Money"
The music video created for "I Just Want The Money" plays like a high-budget heist movie. Shot in HD, the visual shows the daring lengths PeeWee is willing to go for the paper.
"Loaded" (Feat. Young Thug)
Few artists can get as turnt as PeeWee Longway or Young Thug and still manage to rattle off worthy bars. This track is certainly not for the amateur partiers out there, though if you're ready to get absolutely "loaded," this maniacal banger should be right up your alley.
"Sneakin N Geekin"
Metro Boomin doesn't only give the fire to Future and Thug. The young sensation is behind one of PeeWee's biggest hits, "Sneakin N Geekin," which is the epitome of the tweaked-out trap the lean-guzzling emcee is known for.
"Good Crack" (Feat. Yo Gotti)
This turn-up joint, on which PeeWee compares his D to "good crack," is about as addictive to the substance he peddles. He hooks up with fellow seller-of-the-raw Yo Gotti for an elite trapper's anthem.
"Work"
Off last year's The Blue M&M Vol. 2 (King Size), "Work" is more adrenaline-rushing, drug-pushing material from the MPA (Money, Pounds, Ammunition) head honcho. These bars sizzle like quality dope:
I caught that little ho just the work at the spot
I make the lil ho sign her name on the box
I get to trapping and count up the knots
Fuck up the kitchen with the Pyrex pot
"John Dillinger"
Here's a throwback from our subject, on which he compares himself to one of the most storied gangsters in American history. The outfit fits PeeWee perfectly.
Migos Feat. PeeWee Longway - "Came In"
There's too much tireless energy between PeeWee and the Migos for them not to collaborate. Here's one of their best numbers: "Came In," which took over the summer in 2014.
Young Thug Feat. Migos & PeeWee Longway - "Quarterback"
The Atlanta all stars come together like Voltron on "Quarterback." Thugger enlists Migos and PeeWee Longway for the eerie Sonny Digital-produced banger, a standout off Slime Season that, honestly, deserved to be a smash hit.
Travi$ Scott Feat. Migos & PeeWee Longway - "Sloppy Toppy"
Days Before Rodeo was a helluva trip, but one of the craziest moments was "Sloppy Toppy." By linking with Migos and PeeWee Longway, Scott was able to unleash his inner ATLien, yielding an experimental -- but immediately enjoyable -- trap banger.
"Chasing" (Feat. TK-N-Cash)
The final piece in today's list is another cut off Blue M&M 2, featuring up-and-coming duo TK-N-Cash. The track slows Longway's softer, more sentimental side. That's relatively speaking, of course -- like all of his work, "Chasing" is for real trappers only.
