NYU's Tisch School of the Arts names Pharrell their new artist-in-residence.

NYU's Tisch School of the Arts announced in a statement that their newest 2015 artist-as-residence is none other than Pharrell. This isn't the first time a hip hop luminary has held the position; Swizz Beatz and Ryan Leslie have previously served as artists-in-residence at Tisch.

“Our students and faculty will have the unique opportunity to be in conversation with an artist whose work is an inspiration and widespread," said Tisch dean Allyson Green. "Pharrell has demonstrated a commitment to education in communities across the country. He’s dedicated to raising awareness to climate change, and he has taken ‘happiness’ from the stage and screen to people around the world through his work with the United Nations.”

Pharrell has long been an advocate for education. In 2008 he founded One Hand To AnOTHER, a non-profit organization focused on providing education programs to under-served youths. He will begin his residency by giving a talk on his decorated career in front of NYU students, staff and faculty on Oct. 26th at 7:00 p.m at New York City’s Town Hall. No word yet on what else he has on the menu for his stint as NYU artist-in-residence. He mentioned recently that he plans to make another N.E.R.D. album, looks like that's an hold for the time being.
