Of course, today's TBT has to honor Kanye West, who currently has the music world at a standstill awaiting the imminent arrival of his seventh album, the final title of which -- after many revisions -- has just been revealed to be The Life of Pablo. It's hard to believe it's been over two and a half years since 'Ye's last album, though the mood was much the same in the hours before Yeezus.
Much of that anticipation was due to "Black Skinhead," the track that Kanye, along with "New Slaves," performed on SNL the month before the release of Yeezus. "Black Skinhead" showcased the brash and experimental spirit that would define the album, one of Kanye's most political projects -- though any political message is strictly tied to the raw emotion Kanye puts into his art.
From the little we've heard of The Life of Pablo, it will be completely different than Yeezus. Whatever the new album ends up sounding like, let's hope it was made with the same dedication as its predecessor.
Quotable Lyrics
If I don't get ran out by Catholics
Here come some conservative Baptists
Claiming I'm overreacting
Like them black kids in Chiraq bitch
