Lupe Fiasco is no stranger to social activism, and he continues to help underserved communities with a new initiative called the Neighborhood Start Fund, a partnership between Lupe, the Dream Big Foundation, and the Head of Global Partnerships at the navigation app Waze to raise money to stimulate local entrepreneurship in poor neighborhoods.
The first neighborhood is Brownsville, Brooklyn, best known as the home of Masta Ace, Sean Price, and M.O.P. The idea is to start a "local micro-economic engine." Funds will be given to promising startups, which, if successful down the road, will invest capital in new local businesses.
The idea competition is now open at the Neighborhood Start Fund website and the first live pitch event will be help on November 13th.
