Last night was the return of the Meek. His new EP, 4/4, was a bit underwhelming seeing that fans have been waiting for Dreamchasers 4 for so long, but it definitely showed the MMG rapper is still hungry. And though the residual effects of this summer's beef with Drake have caused many trolls to anoint Meek with another "L" without even listening to the music, impartial listeners should take the time to go through the EP. In any case, one should find that his capacity for relentless street rapping is as potent as ever.
Unfortunately, the two tracks that have been stirring up the most controversy, "I'm Da Plug Freestyle" (shots against Drake) and "Gave Em Hope" (which has inspired an Instagram war with 50 Cent), have taken the spotlight away from the other two tracks, both which are considerably better. We highlighted the Jahlil Beats-produced "FBH" last night, but the tape's opener, "Pray For Em," has, thus far, proven to be the fan favorite.
And it's easy to see why. Meek is totally dialed-in, rapping with reckless abandon, but much of the adrenaline rush has to be credited to C-Sick's gripping production, perhaps taking inspiration from "Carmina Burana." It might be overly grandiose if Meek's street raps didn't ring with credibility. This is the type of war-ready music Meek needs to stick to if he wants Dreamchasers 4 to get his name back in the top tier.
Quotable Lyrics
Smokin' loud like surround sound
N*ggas wanna come around now
Cause they know Meek Milly got the crown now
Put my mask on, put the crown down
Tell 'em turn up
When it comes to action n*ggas ride wit me screamin 'murder'
