Kanye made an appearance at the Gold Thimble Fashion Show at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College Friday, where he delivered a speech to the students on creativity, passion, hard work, and dealing with haters.
"It's a tough world out there," he said. "You've got to prepare yourself for politics, bad bosses, hating employees and usually when you're the absolute best, you get hated on the most. But never stop fighting, no matter what anyone says, no matter how they try to compromise your vision."
Good-natured and characteristically intense, Kanye spoke on his difficulties crossing over from music to the fashion world.
"Even for me as a successful musician, in order to make the transition, it was really all but impossible," he said. "People always try to box you in to what they they know you best for. The most successful artists are closest to who they were when they were five years old or four years old or three years old or when my daughter wakes up and decides to change her career seven times a year. I feel extremely excited to see new talent fighting for their voice that I can only image they've been fighting for since age three."
Kanye spoke primarily in terms of fashion but his words are useful and encouraging for any aspiring artist. Actually pretty inspiring stuff.
"Use your youth, use this time you have right now to learn as much as possible, to educate yourself, to hone your craft."
