Mach-Hommy is probably one of the last artists that you would expect to hear over one of Kaytranada's infectious and club-friendly beats, but they most certainly make for a dynamic combination. As of today, the two Haitian artists are officially collaborators as their new track "$payforhaiti," not to be confused with Mach-Hommy's recent critically acclaimed project Pray For Haiti, arrived alongside two other new Kaytra tracks.
Fans will be thrilled to hear Hommy in rare form on "$payforhaiti," flowing effortlessly over Kaytranada's smooth, upbeat production. The enigmatic artist even begins the track rapping in Kreyòl, which makes for a fitting nod to his and Kaytra's Haitian roots. Halfway through the track, Mach-Hommy switches back to english, and the first thing he says is, "I told my nigga pray for Haiti and he told me take the 'r' out."
It works as both a reference to his renowned Griselda project from earlier this summer and a PSA for putting financial support behind one's well wishes. Following the assassination of the former Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, Mach-Hommy spoke on the political turmoil in Haiti, saying, "To me, it’s a broken record that’s on repeat. So when I call my family, it’s the same conversation. A lot of people are extremely depressed more than anything at the recent events."
Although he does stress the importance of praying and paying for Haiti throughout his second verse, "$payforhaiti" doesn't feel heavy in the slightest. Listen to the groovy track below and let us know how you feel about Kaytranada and Mach-Hommy's stunning new collab. Also, don't forget to check out the rest of Kaytra's new Intimidated EP.
