Givers Takers (Prod. By Dow Jones & Tha Bizness)

Troy Ave is known as something of a traditionalist, always making a point of "bringing New York back," and dismissing rappers outside of that template as "weirdos". By this description, you'd assume Troy was rapping over boom-bap beats, but the ear he pays tribute to is generally from the late 90s to early 00s-- the jiggy era to G-Unit, and his latest record find him in the latter half of that spectrum. 

Off his new White Christmas 3 mixtape, "Givers Takers" sounds a whole lot like an early 50 Cent song. The beat, which comes courtesy of Dow Jones and Tha Bizness uses the similarly slinky piano chords as Scott Storch, and Troy's delivery has the same slurry ease of Fif's. Is G-Unit worship the next wave of traditionalism? it just might be.
