New York-based rapper and performance artist Mykki Blanco shared some troubling news with fans this weekend, revealing not only that he is living with HIV, but that he has been HIV-positive for a number of years.
"Ive been HIV Positive since 2011, my entire career," Blanco wrote on Facebook. "fuck stigma and hiding in the dark, this is my real life. I'm healthy I've toured the world 3 times but ive been living in the dark, its time to actually be as punk as i say I am."
Despite the bad news, the rapper's words remained positive when replying to fans in the comments of the post, encouraging his followers to help break the stigma around HIV. “No more living a lie. HAPPY PRIDE," he said, adding later, "The music industry ain't gonna like i admitted this so if a curator could help me move more into the art world that would be awesome."
As you can tell, Mykki isn't letting his diagnosis stop him from making music, so expect some new material from him in the near future.
