The holidaze are finally here, and instead of waking up and giddily running to the tree like we did on Christmas morning, we lethargically roll over and smoke trees, and go down the lazy river that is 4/20.
Whether you’re new to this form of recreation and are unsure about the traditions, or you’re a veteran stoner looking for a way to spice up your special day, we've got a few possibilities on deck to keep the good vibes going.
Click along as we go through the ten best ways to ring in the most important day of the year for pot-smokers.
Listen to Bob Marley on vinyl
Cannabis enthusiasts everywhere are going to be bumping Bob Marley, a pot pioneer to many, so how do you set yourself apart? Listen to Tuff Gong the way he was meant to be listened to, and the way so many tokers of yesteryear did - on a pressed vinyl record.
Watch a classic stoner movie
Roll up the L or pack the bong, kick back, and get taken to another world of stoner fantasy. Whether you go classic with "Cheech and Chong," shoot ‘em up while burning some "Pineapple Express," or see "How Hig" you can get with Method Man and Redman, the choices are vast and all valid. Take your pick, then take a hit.
Make firecrackers
Light on both on your cash and weed stashes; quick and easy to make: firecrackers make the perfect 4/20 treat for any starving artist or stay-at-home stoner. Grab a few graham crackers, spread some Nutella or all natural peanut butter on those bad boys, sprinkle a little bit of shake onto them (vaped weed works, too), sandwich them like a s'more, and put them in the oven at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. Eat, wait, enjoy.
Watch every single BET cypher while having a blunt cypher with your woes
Line them all up on YouTube in a Google Chrome window so that you have way too many tabs open. Have your resident roller buddy roll a tight, fat Backwoods. Burn your way through the catalog of BET Cyphers over the years while simultaneously burning through what one can only presume is the first blunt of many today. If you're going the Backwoods route, the Honey Berry flavor is key.
Play some old school video games
We get it, you’ve been playing a bunch of 2K now that the NBA playoffs are in full effect. You’re probably thinking something like, "How can the Bulls win the ring if I don’t play vicariously through them on my PS4?" It’s okay, friend. Just smoke a bowl, whip out your Gamecube from a thousand years ago and play some Super Smash Bros. Melee, you will not regret it.
Watch "Man With the Iron Fists" while "Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers" plays at the same time
Rock n’ Roller hippies have Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon’s paired with "The Wizard of Oz," so why can’t there be a Hip-Hop equivalent? Now, I can’t promise that this will sync up in any mind-blowing way, but if there was gonna be a day to try it out, 4/20 seems as good a day as any. Worst case scenario: you listen to the best Wu-Tang album while watching a pretty cool movie.
Order a mega-hero sandwich like you were catering a banquet party and split it between you and your crew
The title is pretty self explanatory, but it’s up to you to accept the challenge. You can either hit up your favorite deli and have them pile on the cold cuts and other goodies, or try concocting one yourself. Here's a recipe (or, you can go real crazy Epic Meal Time style, as seen below). And here's your to-do list: pre-roll a blunt or joint, make sandwich, smoke, eat sandwich.
Cop a bunch of Easter candy on sale
Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Target, whatever route you choose one of them is bound to have a bunch of easter candy marked down to a super cheap price. Buy in bulk, invite a few friends over, roll a spliff and share in the spoils.
Go see a live rap show
There are two possible options when it comes to rap shows in NYC tonight. Kid Ink will be playing his second NYC 4/20 show this year at Irving Plaza, while Waka Flocka has another 4/20 show going down at Webster Hall. If you aren't in NYC, there's a Curren$y "Pilot Talk 3" show going down at the Warehouse in Houston which is a must for any stoner, and Jarren Benton also has an H-town show tonight at the House of Blues.
Love thy neighbor
Don’t forget what the holidaze are all about, guys. Be kind to your neighbor and spread the good vibes to someone who may not be as privileged as you this time of year. If you got a buddy who’s broke and budless, show him or her a little love this 4/20. What would Yeezus do? Or Jesus? Or both?
