A few weeks back, we heard Pharrell rework A Tribe Called Quest's 1990 single "Bonita Applebum," and observing the tracklist to the upcoming reissue of People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, we noticed J. Cole would also be supplying a remix. The Cole mix has now arrived, and finds him adding his touch to yet another hit "Can I Kick It?".
Cole is very open about being a student of the 90s, so his production fits perfectly with the rhymes of Q-Tip and the guys. We wouldn't be surprised if he counts them among his greatest influences, especially in terms of beatwork. The 25th anniversary reissue hits stores this Friday November 13th.
Quotable Lyrics:
Can I kick it? To my Tribe that flows in layers
Right now, Phife is a poem sayer
At times, I'm a studio conveyor
Mr. Dinkins, would you please be my mayor?
