Last night, Nas was excitedly posting pictures while he was at Harvard University, receiving the prestigious W.E.B. Du Bois Medal. Nas became the first rapper to ever receive the award, which Harvard doles out annually for individuals who have excelled in their contributions to African American culture. Nas was joined by Former U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr and seven other recipients.
When receiving his award, Nas spoke on the importance of the award in relation to the youth. "These are the things the kids need to see. The real things," he said. "This is a light I want on me. I hope that I can be a great role model for those kids…you can be more than the typical image of rap."
He later wrote on Instagram, "Historic night for the rap game. At the Hutchins Center Honors for the W. E. B. Du Bois Medal ceremony. This is a first for the Rap Game to receive this award but, definitely not the last. Thank you."
Check out some of the photos Nas shared from the ceremony at Sanders Theatre above.
Congratulations to Nasir!
