Whether they're teaming up against Drake on Hot 97 or popping bottles together in the club, Chris Brown and Tyga have had quite the bromance going for a number of years now. Along with scandals and drama galore, the duo are also responsible for some of the finest pop-rap tunes in the last five years. Today marks the release of their new joint project Fan Of A Fan: The Album, so we thought we'd take some time to look back on their five finest tracks together.
First linking up for 2010's original Fan Of A Fan tape, the duo went on to guest on a number of each others' solo tracks in the ensuing years, meaning we have a lot to pick from. For that reason, we won't be selecting any of the new album's tracks, as they haven't had as much time to sink in. With any list, there are notable exceptions, and so this time we're giving honorable mentions to "Wonder Woman," "When To Stop" and "Holla @ Me."
Read on to see Tyga and Chris Brown's five greatest hits and be sure to cop Fan Of A Fan: The Album on iTunes.
gshit
G Shit
One of the Jahlil Beats-produced highlights from Fan Of A Fan, "G Shit" is one of the Philly-based beatmaker's chillest instrumentals on record. With that and the pool party popping off in the song's video, you'd never know that this was an ode to supposedly gangster shit. But amid all of the cheesy smiles, pool toys and bikinis, Tyga does at least shout out a man who's a little more familiar with "G Shit": "Bumpin' Gucci Mane, yeah baby have some lemonade." This one still thumps at backyard BBQs.
snapbacks
Snapbacks Back
Flipping Meek Mill's 2Pac homage into a claim that he repopularized snapback baseball caps, Tyga included the almost hilariously turnt "Snapbacks Back" on his 2011 mixtape Well Done 2. Him and Breezy rap on the titanic Mike WiLL Made It beat, making their boasts about fashion and girls seem like life-or-death concerns, and somewhat poking fun at the original. A little ridiculous? Maybe, but you can't deny how fun this track is. It also probably didn't hurt the sales of Tyga's Last Kings caps.
road
For The Road
After a remix of a 2Pac tribute comes a track that actually flips a Pac original. "For The Road," included on T-Raww's 2013 album Hotel California, hearkens back to the West Coast legend's "Dear Mama," and him and Breezy do a great job interpolating the classic. The only real ballad included on this list, "For The Road" sees the two erstwhile party boys slow it down and make one for the ladies.
loyal
Loyal
A song that truly ruled the airwaves last year, "Loyal" definitely benefitted from a Lil Wayne guest verse, but its DNA is classic Breezy and Gold Chains. Nic Nac really pulled out on the stops on this beat, taking all of the elements of DJ Mustard's formula but not sounding as outright of a ripoff as "Fancy" and other big 2014 songs. The video has cameos from R&B greats such as Trey Songz, Usher and Ty Dolla $ign, so you really can't go wrong with this one.
deuces
Deuces
If there ever was an under-appreciated Chris Brown song, it's "Deuces." Another one taken from the first Fan Of A Fan, the Kevin McCall-produced track wears its electronic influence on its sleeve, and still sounds trendy to this day. Although it's technically a breakup track, "Deuces" is nostalgic and catchy enough to still function as a turn-up track. This is Brown and Tyga at their most honest and least boastful, and that's a rare treat in their discography together.
