Earlier tonight, Kendrick Lamar shocked the hip-hop world by releasing "To Pimp a Butterfly" a week ahead of the album's initial March 23 release date. We thought the early release was Kendrick's effort to beat the leakers, but according to TDE boss Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, the TDE camp was not on board.
Hours before the, perhaps accidental, release, Tiffith asked his twitter followers, "how we feeling 8 days away from the return of King Kendrick?" Then, moments after To Pimp a Butterfly appeared on iTunes, Tiffith went back on Twitter to express his alarm. Apparently, Interscope, the major label behind TDE, is to blame for the early release: "I WOULD LIKE TO PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR FUCKING UP OUR RELEASE... SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 This MISTAKE !!!!".
Note that Kendrick, on the other hand, doesn't seem fazed, simply tweeting: "Keep calm. All is well."
