Before a Ghostface Killah show in Toronto last Thursday night, reporters asked the Wu-Tang co-founder about Canada's biggest hip-hop export to the world: Drake. Drake's recent mixtape (that's being sold as an album) If You're Reading This It's Too Late hit number one on the charts last week. On Drake's last official album, Nothing Was the Same, Drake included the Wu-tribute song "Wu-Tang Forever," which sampled the Clan's "It'z Yours." Individual Wu members responded differently to the track, but Ghost let's it be known he has only positive things to say about the Toronto MC. "Drake is brilliant"
"I don't look at Drake like these other little rhyme guys nowadays, because I think he can really spit a rhyme. So I put him in a different category."
He also says he wants to find the next Drake himself. Ghost wants to start a record label in Toronto, the launch of which will be accompanied by a talent search called "Canada Takes the Mic." The winner of his sweepstakes will get $100,000 and a record deal.
Ghostface's latest album, Sour Soul, is a collaboration with Canadian instrumental jazz-trio BADBADNOTGOOD, which, as of yesterday, you can stream here.
