After getting pulled over illegally by the cops, A Boogie wit da Hoodie felt he had no choice but to talk to his frightened daughter about police. As the world continues to speak out against the persistent police brutality that Black folks disproportionately face, more and more people have been disclosing their negative experiences with cops and how these have collectively impacted their view of law enforcement. A Boogie is one such individual, as he shared a story about a recent encounter he had with police while he was in the car with his 3-year-old daughter, Melody. The rapper posted an Instagram story explaining what had happened, and what he decided to tell Melody about police officers afterwards.
“So yesterday in NJ I got pulled over illegally with my daughter in the car,” he wrote. “Now she hates police and she’s only 3 but I had to tell her every cop isn’t bad. Not because it’s a fact, because I don’t want my child being scared every time she sees a police officer. Some of them do their job but the bad cops make them all look like monsters. Illegal stops! Illegal searches!”
He went on to encourage folks to go live on Instagram when they get stopped by police in order to document what's happening in real time. “From now on when you get pulled over," he wrote, "don’t record normally normally go on live for the world to see!”
