Stream "Intervention," standout track off Boogie's "The Reach."

"Intervention" off Boogie's fire tape The Reach calls upon Jill Scott's "I Think It's Better" for its sample; producers Keyel and AC chop up the song's jazzy/swirly electric piano and Jill's sultry crooning, throw in a subtle Nicky da B "Express Yourself" sample to get the track rolling on its way, and then turn the keys over to Boogie, who proceeds to take this track home spitting some passionate humble realness the whole way.

The themes Boogie touches on in "Intervention" -- his son, his girl, his homies -- are at once once far-reaching and cohesive, always returning to his struggle to find peace in adulthood. He's emotional but maintains dignity and swag throughout. Shades of Chance, shades of TDE. Could Boogie, borne to Compton, be the next TDE signee?

Quotable Lyrics

Terrorize myself like a martyr but I keep working
Searching up on the surface
The lurking became a burden
My purpose, it was blurry, I promise I’m finally certain
