Though it feels like news coverage has shifted back to coronavirus and the upcoming elections, peaceful protests are still happening across the country. These protests are due to the string of recent killings at the hands of the police, though it isn't limited to law enforcement. Ahmaud Arbery died at the hands of White Supremacists and people have been demanding both answers and justice.
Per ABC, the three men involved in Ahmaud Arbery's killing, Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan, have officially been indicted on murder charges. The Cobb County D.A., Joyette Holmes announced the indictment on Wednesday during a press conference that comes over a month after they were arrested and held without bail. Though they were arrested, and the judge ruled there was enough evidence to move forward with the case, murder charges in Georgia typically are handed down in an indictment by the grand jury.
The indictment includes nine charges with each defendant being hit with 1 count of malice murder, 4 counts felony murder, 2 counts aggravated assault, 1 count false imprisonment, and 1 count criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.
Gregory McMichael, the father of Travis McMichael, admitted that he chased down Arbery who he said matched the description of a suspect in a burglary. During the preliminary hearing, a detective for GBI said there was 'no evidence' that Arbery ever stole anything from the construction site he was spotted at during his run.
