We've always made a conscious effort to mine for and introduce new and undiscovered talent to HNHH. Without getting into the specifics (*eye roll emoji*), as a user, you'll likely know of a particular artist that you first encountered here on the HNHH pages. With that being said, we're continuing that effort with what should be a weekly feature (assuming we don't fall off again, because, life) that spotlights our favourite staff and user-submitted tracks, following our office's weekly (or bi-weekly, or sometimes, when life gets in the way, monthly...but I swear we'll be back to weekly soon enough!) music meeting.
Here's a quick breakdown of how it works.
- Every week, or every other week, each of our staff members submits a song from an artist we've never yet (or else, ~barely ever~) posted on HNHH (so get your song into the hands of a staff member, and wow them with your musical prowess, hint hint)
- The song does not need to be new, in fact, most of the time, it's an older record
- This can include music videos
- We listen to all the submissions as a team
- Each staff member votes on their top three favorite submissions out of that week's batch of submissions
- We cull the votes, and feature the top 3 on the website, in a handy article like this
- In an effort to include user/fan-submitted music as well, we also go through all our Soundcloud messages and pick out the best submissions we find to include in our meeting (please send us your most fire submissions, it can be your song or someone else's). When we're in submission-listening-mode, we send out a tweet like this, which we'll also double up on our Instagram - so if you follow us on either/or platforms, you'll be in the know (!).
Now that you have the breakdown, take a look at this week's three new artist discoveries. This week, two of our artists were found via our Soundcloud submissions. It was a particularly strong week for our Soundcloud DMs-- so shout out everyone that submitted!! There were a lot of great up and comers to choose from, but ultimately the two Soundcloud submissions that won this time around were RealLife and JPEG*. Our other favourite from our music meeting is UK artist Lava La Rue, who was a staff submission. All three are worth checking out below. Let us know what you think in the comments. Don't forget to vote too!
