The rap community is mourning yet another loss of a rising young star. According to multiple reports, Toronto rapper Houdini was shot and killed in the downtown area of the Canadian city. A news report by CP24 stated that the shooting occurred outside of a hotel in broad daylight, injuring three people including Houdini, who was later identified as the fatality. Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders called the attack "brazen."
The two other victims injured in the gunfire were a 15-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman who were both listed as being in critical and serious condition, respectively. Witnesses told police that there were approximately six to 10 shots fired. The Entertainment District is known to be an area frequented by pedestrians and high in foot traffic, so for this to happen in the middle of the day is unusual. Chief Saunders also told reporters that the unidentified suspects may have waited in a nearby vehicle for upwards of 40 minutes for the victims to arrive to their car. Once Houdini and the other male victim were at their vehicle, the suspect's vehicle reportedly made a U-Turn, a shooter jumped out of the passenger side and opened fire, returned to the vehicle, and sped off. The woman who was injured in the shooting is said to have been an innocent bystander.
"The suspect vehicle was actually facing northbound at one point in time and then came around and started shooting at the victims, in this particular case, as they were about to get into their vehicle,” Saunders said. “That vehicle is not here either. So we're trying to locate both vehicles: the victims’ vehicle as well as the suspects’ vehicle." Authorities are hoping that the public will help in identifying the person or persons responsible.
