As tens of thousands of people took to various social media platforms to call for the cancelation of Doja Cat, Ebro Darden stepped forward with an alternate solution. The radio host posed a question to the public that wasn't received warmly, at all. "Instead of canceling Doja Cat for having some weird fetish and identity issues," Ebro said. "Possible to uplift her and show her that being Black is beautiful? Im assuming she had no Black culture in her suburban wasteland and her white Mom couldn't help her. And chat rooms."
It didn't take long for people to swarm in to chastise the Hot 97 host for erring on the side of positivity, and he discussed the controversy on his radio show. "I'm assuming she didn't have any black culture in her suburban wasteland. Her white mom probably couldn't help her so she got some identity issues and you off in chatrooms, so clearly there's some—if you like being called the n-word...maybe she loves that. Maybe that turns her on or some weird thing. I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know what she was into. But clearly there was some sort of mental identity something."
Ebro added that because his mother is white, as well, the comments from the public were especially scathing. Then, Ebro addressed Doja Cat's Instagram Live last night (May 25) where the singer once again attempted to explain herself. According to Ebro, Doja came across as "mean." He added, "Yo fam, you sound mad defensive. You got something you need to deal with." Watch the discussion below.
