The assailant reportedly sucker-punched the 6-foot-5, 256-pound tight end unprovoked. A trip to the hospital afterward was merely a precautionary decision. The exact details surrounding the incident are still unconfirmed and no news regarding any legal action has been announced.

The Eagles have declined to comment on the situation yet, but are aware of the news.

Goedert's teammate, Avonte Maddox, reacted on Twitter: "Yeah, lucky I wasn’t there. Would have been some problems deadass."

Goedert, a native of South Dakota, attended South Dakota State University before being selected in the second round of the 2018 draft by the Eagles. Backing up star tight end Zach Ertz, Goedert plays a crucial role in the offense. He hauled in 58 catches for 607 yards and five touchdowns during last season. He is 25-years-old.

As of Saturday, the NFL season is expected to begin on time; however, many have expressed their concerns regarding the coronavirus. Commissioner Roger Goodell has responded to these concerns saying, "So positive tests are going to happen. The issue is, can we obviously prevent as many of those from happening, but in addition, treat them quickly, isolate them and prevent them from directly impacting our player personnel."
