YG and Mustard spread the wealth on Juneteenth by feeding tons of Los Angeles residents thanks to Postmates and Fishbone Seafood. After recently obtaining an equity stake in Fishbone Seafood restaurants, the long time collaborators decided to use the opportunity to donate $100,000 worth of meals in collaboration with Postmates.
"I met one of the [Fishbone] owners at a gas station, and he told me we should do business," YG said in a statement. "I called Mustard and told him about the opportunity, and he was ready to go."
“COVID-19 has hit Black and Brown communities the hardest,” Mustard added. “YG and I have not forgotten where we come from, and feel a duty to support those who are less fortunate and have been our biggest supporters from the beginning."
The duo delivered $50,000 worth of free food from participating Fishbone locations on Friday (June 19th), a day which marked the historic Juneteenth holiday as well as the second annual Mustard Day. The two free meal options were either The Mustard Plate—grilled shrimp and filet sole with sautéed vegetables—or the YG Plate—grilled filet sole with sautéed vegetables.
Next week, they'll be donating an additional $50,000 worth of meals to different L.A. organizations such as A New Way of Life, Hollywood Food Coalition, Midnight Mission, Watts Empowerment Center, Upward Bound House and five St. John’s Well Child and Family clinics.
