Hurricane Chris has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in Louisiana after claiming he shot a man in self-defense.

Hurricane Chris was arrested in Shreveport, Louisiana, on murder charges after investigators disputed his claims that he'd shot a man in self-defense. On Friday (June 19th), ABC-affiliate KTBS reported that the rapper, born Chris Dooley, Jr., had officially been charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of stolen things. The incident occurred early Friday morning at a Texaco convenience store in the 2600 block of Hollywood Avenue in Shreveport. Chris had initially told police that he had shot the victim after exiting the store because he thought the man was trying to break into his car and steal it.

However, investigators secured video footage of the altercation, which "showed that Dooley did not act in self-defense," according to police. In addition, it was quite possible that the car that Chris had driven to the gas station did not actually belong to him, as it was reported in Texas. Investigators believe that Chris fabricated the self-defense story completely. The victim suffered multiple gunshots and was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health hospital where he later died.

Hurricane Chris rose to fame in 2007 due to the success of his smash hit, "A Bay Bay," off his debut album, 51/50 Ratchet.
