It's kind of surprising how separate Chicago's respective hip-hop and footwork scenes have stayed to this day. The latter genre, a brand of frenetic dance music inspired and often accompanied by highly-skilled dancers, has brushed shoulders with the rap game, with Chance The Rapper occasionally showcasing his fandom, and the late DJ Rashad inspiring many a popular rapper. Other than that though, the worlds have remained pretty exclusive, with many US rap fans having little to no familiarity with footwork.
On "Clean Up," a Stephan Ponce and Social Experiment-produced track from Towkio's new tape .Wav Theory, that genre's influence is unmistakable throughout. In Chance's words: "This shit better turn your shit up."
