Roddy Ricch is taking over the charts just like Lil Nas X did last year.
Prior to the release of "Old Town Road," nobody quite knew who Lil Nas X even was. Then, he ended up having the biggest song of the year, staying still at the #1 position for much of 2019. Roddy Ricch has experienced similar success in 2020. White his name was buzzing prior to the release of his debut album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial, a viral track took his career to new levels.
"The Box" blew up on TikTok several weeks after its initial release, sparking it to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 before making its way to #1. It remains the longest-reigning #1 record of the year and, with a new accomplishment, Roddy is the owner of the year's biggest song.
The new Billboard Hot 100 update sees DaBaby's collaboration with the rapper hit the top position for the second straight week, but another story is told with "The Box" retaining its spot in the Top 10.
Coming in at #9, this week officially marks six months for "The Box" on the chart. It is the year's biggest hit and, with that stat alone, Roddy should be a lock to win Best New Artist categories at a few award shows this year.
Congrats to the 21-year-old from Compton!
