These days, it's not uncommon for an artist to announce their release date mere days before the album hits. For Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley, that's exactly what ended up happening with his upcoming project The Smartest, which is all set to arrive this coming Friday, June 19th. While it's not technically a surprise project, it's clear that Grizzley is looking to build a little momentum, picking up where recent tracks like "Mr. Officer" left off.

"Thank you God for letting this music save and change my life," captions Tee, alongside the project's Boondocks-inspired album artwork. While he has yet to provide a tracklist, it's entirely possible that we're looking at the most sociopolitical project he's penned thus far; the slogans on the back of the class read "No room for racism," "Black Lives Matter," and "Silence supports violence."
That's not to say Grizzley has switched his style completely. We've already seen a few drops from The Smartest these past few months, including the Hit-Boy produced "Payroll," which features none other than Payroll Giovanni. He also took a moment to honor his late aunt Jobina Brown, who was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting last year, on "Satish." Last but not least is the Scott Storch produced "I Spy," which arrived at the beginning of May -- you can check that out here. Look for the full album to drop this Friday, and sound off -- are you excited for some new Tee Grizzley?
