FKA Twigs made her major breakthrough last year, which means a good chunk of her fanbase never knew her under her original pseudonym, Twigs. The UK singer was approached by a duo called The Twigs about two years back, and after they rejected her offer of $15,000 to buy the name, she regrettably added the FKA (which stands for 'formerly known as') as a prefix to her name.
While initially kind of a bummer, the name now has a certain charm to it, but unfortunately, The Twigs are still not happy with FKA's (real name Tahlia Barnett) choice of title. According to Barnett, she can't legally continue to use a a name the duo don't approve of.
"The only way I won't have to change my name is if they say that I don't have to. And they're not gonna say that," she revealed in an interview with Dazed. "I'm not angry, but I do feel sad about it. It'll be fine. I might call myself FKA tree trunk. Or FKA baby branches. Or IRL twigs."
