Tons of hip hop icons such as Jadakiss, Chuck D, Rakim, Black Thought, and many more will be participating in an introspective discussion with the groundbreaking group, The Last Poets. Often revered as the "Godfathers of Hip Hop," The Last Poets are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their legendary self-titled debut album next Tuesday by holding a special virtual event in collaboration with the Universal Hip Hop Museum and Video Music Box. The former promoted the event on Instagram, indicating that it will be "one of the most important conversations in Hip Hop history."
Along with Jadakiss, Chuck D, Rakim, and Black Thought, special guests will include Rapsody, Doug E. Fresh, KRS-1, Sonia Sanchez, Jessica Care Moore, Chubb Rock, Black Ice, Smif-N-Wessum, and more. Ralph McDaniels of Video Music Box will host the event, which will see guests conversing with surviving members of The Last Poets, Abiodun Oyewole, Umar Bin Hassan, and Don Babatunde. Unfortunately, founding member and “Grandfather of Hip Hop," Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, passed away in 2018 at the age of 74.
The event will be streamed live on Facebook as well as on Youtube on both the UHH Museum's channel here and on Video Music Box's channel here, beginning at 7:00pm EST on Tuesday, May 19th, 2020.
