Giannis Antetokounmpo has quickly become a superstar in the city of Milwaukee and this season, many think he will be able to lead the Bucks to an NBA championship. More importantly, though, Giannis has been a beacon of the community and continues to be a role model for the youth of the city.
This past weekend, Giannis continued to show his support to the people of Milwaukee as he attended an anti-police brutality protest. Giannis could be seen wearing an "I Can't Breathe" t-shirt and even came through with some inspiring words of change on a megaphone. He even made sure to note that he wasn't there for publicity and that he just wants to see real systemic changes.
“This is our city, man. We gotta come out here and support. We want change. We want justice," Giannis said. "That’s why we’re out here. That’s what we’re gonna do today. That’s why I’m gonna march with you guys. I want my kids to walk in Milwaukee, not to be scared to walk in this place. I don’t want my kid to have hate in his heart."
Giannis isn't the first player to speak out on these issues as LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, and Damian Lillard have all done their part. Needless to say, the NBA is inspiring an entire generation to participate in civic discussions.
