R&B crooner JMSN has a unique swagger and collaborations with Ab-Soul. Let's look at his essential tracks.

JMSN is a name that has been popping up over the past few years, but this Michigan native has actually been active for 10 years now.

Mixing soul, R&B and alternative minded music, JMSN receives comparisons to the likes of The Weeknd and even Justin Timberlake. However his production is more reminiscent of Shlohmo or Ta-Ku than anything on pop radio, making his music appeal to the indie audience and those looking for the freshest sounds. Keep in mind that he is a producer as well as a singer, and lays down the beats for most of his songs by being a multi-instrumentalist.

Visually, JMSN has a ton of music videos out there, many of which you'll see in the next 10 slides. The artistry of his videos lands somewhere between softcore porn and Ripley's Believe It Or Not, making his YouTube channel a very interesting one.

The singer also has a project with Ab-Soul on the horizon, titled Unit 6. Apparently business has gotten in the way of a proper release, but the project is allegedly done.

JMSN - Alone

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

Over 3 years ago, the video for "Alone" dropped, helping to spark the (more-so) underground, alternative R&B scene that was soon to explode. The singer took hints from The Weeknd's success and paired the sexy song with sexier, although sort of haunting, visuals to create something so eerie you can't look away.

JMSN featuring Freddie Gibbs - Street Sweeper Remix

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

Over the years JMSN sound hasn't changed as much as it has refined. "Street Sweeper" is a recent single that proves this sentiment, as VHS-visuals combine with a more accessible sound than some of his previous work. The Remix features Freddie Gibbs, so I know some of you hip-hop heads will love that.

JMSN - The One

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

"Are you awake? Can you hear me? I gotta tell you something..."

These are the sexy whispers we hear setting the stage for "The One." The crackling of a campfire (or probably vinyl) lets way to another suave single from the song-writer. A mix of haunting and sexual visuals is the theme for this one as well.

Ab-Soul x JMSN - You're Gone

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

Ab-Soul and JMSN have an entire project that's suppose to come out, but for now, we have "You're Gone."

...and it's awesome.

JMSN - Girl I Used To Know

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

"Girl I Used To Know" is a little more on the pop side of things for JMSN. The signature eerie-R&B sound gets a really strong hook that will keep the chorus floating in your head all day long, so listen with caution.

JMSN - Do U Remember The Time

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

This one is a trip. Literally.

JMSN and his babe take some drugs and have a crazy experience in the middle of nowhere. How could you not remember a time like that?

Ab-Soul featuring JMSN - W.R.O.H.

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

JMSN links up with Ab-Soul for another epic cut. The production, raps and singing blend together for quite the sonic experience on this one.

JMSN - Bout It

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

"Bout It" is not a freestyle over the Master P song, but a funky 6-minute original from the rising star. This song has wheels, so don't be surprised if you hear it at a soiree in the near future.

JMSN - Addicted

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

JMSN tells the story of being addicted to a lover, but over a decidedly more hip-hop sounding beat than the slow-motion tendencies of the others. The style works really well, and channels neo-soul as much as it does alternative R&B.

JMSN - Addicted Pt. II

10 Essential JMSN Tracks

And for the come down, we have a piano-driven ballad that is similar to the part one we just heard. Enjoy JMSN doing his best "Marvin's Room" impression.
