Lay Up

Future tosses a "Lay Up" on his new record.

As much as Migos are billed as "New Atlanta", their formula is more of a continuation of Gucci Mane's sound than anything. While their flows may be a little flashier, the Zaytoven production they favor could've come straight off of a 2009 GuWop tape, and Future's latest project finds him similarly paying tribute to that era.

"Lay Up" finds him co-opting a lyrical technique we've heard from Gucci for years as well, taking one word, and flipping it as many ways as possible. That word is "Regular", which is funny, seeing as ZMoney dropped a similarly Wop-ian take on the word a year or so back. Fewtch makes it his own though, going back to his monotone "Karate Chop" flows to sell it his way.

Quotable Lyrics:
I jump out a whip, it ain't regular
I'm flippin' this brick it ain't regular
I'm not just a local pedestrian
I get that work from the Mexicans
