At this point, a low-end piano keystroke is all but guarantee that a banger is underway. Such is indeed the case for Conway The Machine and Big Ghost LTD's new "Icon," an early highlight off his recent album No One Mourns The Wicked. Given the ominous title, it's no surprise that the pair concocted something truly sinister on this one, with Big Ghost's grimy samples setting the tone for nocturnal activities. And who better to act as our narrator than Conway, one of the game's most stellar lyricists at the moment.
"Mayweather take his ratchet when he play the yard," he spits. "Behind the wall, he see an opp and leave his face with scars / you see my driveway, it's full of racin' cars and a Wraith with stars in the roof -- boy my paper large." The craziest thing is -- he somehow finds compelling ways to keep his rhyme scheme going, lining it with vivid imagery and imposing threats. That's the beauty about the Griselda movement; everything they spit on wax sounds plausible, and if Conway continues at this prolific rate, there will be no stopping his ascent to the top.
