Prior to his incarceration and looming murder charge, YNW Melly was looking like one of hip-hop's potential young stars. And while it's entirely possible that his run is cut short, the YNW movement is not likely to end with him. Enter YNW SMOKEDALOC, one of Melly's proteges and an interesting artist in his own right. As expected given his crew affiliation, SMOKEDALOC's style is notably melodic, singsong reflections of street violence often perpetrated by his own hand.
On "21," the rapper proves he's not one to be trifled with. "They gon' speak with that Draco, killers go when I say so," he warns, lulling you into a false sense of security with his delivery. "I got em' n***s on payroll, they gon' do what I say though." While it's unlikely that SMOKEDALOC will convert those who were previously once the fence with Melly, he should serve as a solid intermediary for the time being. Especially if you've been coveting that unique brand of violent yet melodic gangsta rap we've seen associated with the movement.
