If you didn't expect to see Hannibal Buress drop a track about the decades-spanning career of Judge Judy, you're probably not alone in that. The comedian came through his new single produced by Chrome Sparks and featuring frequent collaborator, Ron Lamont, on Thursday, and it's one wild ride. "Judge Judy" samples soundbites from America's vitriolic and highest-paid TV sweetheart while Hannibal reflects on his former days as a defendant in the televised courtroom, and the results are equal parts ridiculous and catchy.
"'Judge Judy' is an examination of Judy's longevity and tenacity in a simple format," Hannibal said about the single. "5200 episodes of the same scenarios. Why do people go on the show knowing that there's a good chance of being berated? Does their fandom blind them so much that they're willing to be embarrassed on national television by the legend? What happens when they return to their hometowns? Do they ever live it down or is it a stain on them forever?" In March, Judy announced that the beloved CBS series would be coming to an end in 2021 after a 25-year run. Stream "Judge Judy" to pay your respects to the daytime TV icon.
Quotable Lyrics
Judge Judy, remember me?
I was on an episode in 2003
Yeah, I was the defendant and you doubted me
'Cause they said I didn't pay rent for a thousand weeks (twenty years)
