Auto-tune crooner, meet your maker.
24hrs is an Atlanta personality who has been buzzing for the better part of a year now. His spacey delivery, thanks to vocals that are dripping with auto-tune, has given the Southern scene a different dimension and added a new voice that isn't dependent on the trap-style vibes that the area is known for. Now, the young R&B sensation has enlisted the services of perhaps his most direct stylistic comparison, T-Pain, for a verse on the remix to his successful track "What You Like."
The original version of the song, which debuted in December of last year, was a similarly smooth creation, with Wiz Khalifa & Ty Dolla $ign helping 24hrs out as the featured artists. However, those largely-untouched verses have been replaced with T-Pain's signature warble and, to a certain degree, it all feels like a bit much, in terms of having both him and 24hrs utilizing much of the same approach to crafting their vocal effects. It doesn't necessarily impact the feel of the track, which still gives off the cool, reserved vibe that the ATL up-and-comer is known for, but for some fans of his music, this could be an example of too much of a good thing.
There's also the notion that T-Pain (who is gearing up to drop a new album before 2017 is done) might be shifting away from his auto-tune persona down the road, so with that in mind, this might be what we look back on in the early stages of 2018 as a more "authentic" verse from the "Buy U A Drank" singer. Both he and 24hrs together make an interesting pair, albeit a very similar one.
