NYC representers Skyzoo and Torae return with their highly anticipated collaborative release. Titled Barrel Brothers, the project enlists some of hip-hop's most respected producers, including DJ Premier, Jahlil Beats, Black Milk, Illmind and Oh-No. Guest appearances come courtesy of Sean Price, Guilty Simpson, Blu, Sha Stimuli, and Livin Proof. On iTunes, the song "Got It From Here," produced by Apollo Brown, appears as a bonus track. The stream arrives via DJBooth.net, which has recently merged with its partner site Refined Hype. The announcement and explanation for the merger can be found here.
Skyzoo and Torae both hail from Brooklyn, New York. Skyzoo's rise to fame occurred in 2006 with the release of his critically acclaimed Cloud 9: The 3 Day High, an EP recorded in collaboration with Grammy-award winning producer 9th Wonder. Torae, meanwhile, gained recognition for his early work with producers DJ Premier and Marco Polo. His debut LP, For the Record, was an enormous critical success. According to an interview with Kevin Nottingham, the two first considered collaborating in 2007 while recording with Premier.
