If you follow David Banner beyond his explicit hit singles about intercourse, you'll know that the Mississippi rapper-producer actually has quite the track-record when it comes to the topic of race relations. In 2007, he even went as far as to testify to the United States Congress for a panel on misogyny and violence in rap music, famously stating, "I can admit there are some problems in hip hop but it is only a reflection of what's taking place in our society. Hip hop is sick because America is sick." In other words, he drops knowledge like a pimp.
Appearing on CNN to discuss a series of tweets he posted this week regarding the recent shooting of Missouri teen Michael Brown, Banner took a psychological approach to the situation at hand, explaining that "black kids kill black kids for the same reason cops do," blaming stereotyping and unconscious racism for the never ending cycle of violence.
"White cops do not see value in young, black men," said Banner. "And the reason why a lot of young, black men—not all black men, kill each other is because they don’t see any value either. So many people have bought into this Americanized system and America historically has always tortured, killed, and enslaved black people. And I have not forgot that. So, in me saying that there’s a reason why we don’t see value. But it’s different because cops are paid to protect us.”
