ScHoolboy Q is still on his Oxymoron tip, but that doesn't mean he hasn't started working on his next project. We recently caught up with the West Coast native and found out the album process has begun, although it's in the early stages. After all, he says he just started recording "yesterday" (meaning Thursday September 4th, as we shot this on the Friday). Nonetheless, we're excited.
To kick things off, Baker asks Groovy Q about his broad and unique fanbase. As the rapper tells us, "I dunno how I became the person with that odd fanbase. You'll see like the oddest person at a ScHoolboy Q, like, this person a ScHoolboy Q fan? And then you'll look at a nigga, like, oh yeah that nigga look just like ScHoolboy! It's pretty dope."
The TDE counterpart says that, at this point, he's unsure about the direction of his follow-up to Oxymoron. "I dunno yet," Q says of how it'll compare to Oxymoron. "I just started yesterday, so I really don't know. I mean I know what I wanna do, but things change. I knew what I wanted to do with Oxymoron in 2012 but I didn't drop it til 2014."
He went on to reveal that, tentatively, he'd like to drop the album next year. "It's another journey I'm about to take to finish another album, no telling when I'll finish it, but my plans is for it to drop it next year. I'm not promoting it right now, I'm still on my Oxymoron wave, but I'm definitely working on my second album," Q confirms.
Of course we had to sneak in a Kendrick Lamar album question, especially when the Black Hippy MC says that you'll be seeing him pop up on features more so than new solo material.
"To all my fans at HotNewHipHop, I ain't about to be dropping no songs soon, so don't be looking for me on there with the Super Hottttt sign [Ed. note: we're pretty sure he means VERY HOTTTTT], but, a nigga will be on some features and shit...But right now, you know me, I don't drop a gang of songs, I'm working on this new album to give y'all," says ScHoolboy as he signs off. As for that Kendrick album? "Ahhh man, you know I can't speak on that." We tried.
