ScHoolboy Q has expressed doubt that a Black Hippy album will come to fruition, citing his solo career as coming first at this point in time.
"That would be tight one day if it was to ever come out," said Q in an interview with Vibe magazine. "People gotta understand once all your careers is doing good you can’t just turn your back on your solo career to try something new. People gotta understand time is everything."
And focusing on his solo career Q continues to do. According to the man himself, the follow-up to his commercially-successful Oxymoron LP is in the warm-up stages.
“I’m in the studio just messing around right now,” he said. “Not necessarily like working on my next album. I’m messing around trying to get into the groove of things. Make sure I attack my album the right way I want to attack it. You know what I’m saying? And put out another top notch album. That people are gonna talk about. So, that’s my whole thing right now. Just trying to figure it out. It’s like warm-ups right before spring training.”
The crux of the interview, however, was not to promote new music but rather to talk about the rapper's new Own The Summer campaign with footwear retailer Footaction. As expressed in the interview, Footaction & Q are giving fans the opportunity to appear in a remixed video to the rapper's smash hit "Man Of The Year." Fans who upload videos and/or photos to to Vine/Instagram with the hashtag #OwnTheSummer will be automatically submitted for inclusion in the video. Results will be released in mid-August.
