If you haven't heard Jay Electronica's new song over Soulja Boy's "We Made It" track, drop everything and give the play button a twirl. It's that good. However, if you have heard it you probably noticed a bar in Jay Z's verse that seemed to address the OVO meister, Drizzy Drake of Toronto.
"Sorry Mrs. Drizzy for so much art talk," Jay Z spits. "Silly me, rappin' 'bout shit that I really bought/ While these rappers rap about guns that they ain't shot/ And a bunch of other silly shit that they ain't got."
So what's all that about? Well, if you remember that inflammatory Rolling Stone interview with Drake, the one that caused Drake to swear off public interviews forever (until he needs the press, that is), then you might remember Drake mentioning Jigga in not the most positive light.
"It's like Hov can't drop bars these days without at least four art references," Drake said. "I would love to collect [art] at some point, but I think the whole Rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny."
Well, it looks like Jay Z tends to disagree with his retaliation. It's less of an outright diss then more of an acknowledgment of Drake's comments, proving once again that nothing slips past that man. Remember, this is the very same Rolling Stone article that had Drake openly admit he wasn't in Jay Z and Kanye's best graces at a point.
"It was a lack of communication paired with natural competitiveness. But those two are gods to me," Drake said. But Drake also said some not-so-nice things about Ye's Yeezus, saying, "There were some real questionable bars on there," Drake says in the article. "Like that Swag-hili line? Come on man, man. Even Fabolous wouldn’t say some shit like that."
Ouch! Well, it appears to have all been swept under the rug, but Jay Z's quick line fired like a warning shot.
Do you think Drake is going to retaliate and escalate things further? Or will heed the advice of others and leave well enough alone? What do you think should happen?
