The miniseries will chronicle their rise in the industry.

Break out your tracksuits and get ready to bust an old school dance move because Lifetime is bringing Salt-N-Pepa to the small screen. Variety reports that the network is gearing up to present a biographical series that chronicles the life and times of hip hop icons Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandra "Pepa" Denton. Although we know that Lifetime will feature the scripted miniseries in multiple episodes, they haven't revealed how many just yet.

The biopic will be produced by Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit Entertainment and both Latifah and Shakim Compere are executive producers along with co-execs Andy Hume, Dionne Harmon, and James "Jimmy" Maynes." James and Denton have often spoken about their rise and difficulties of fame, but this is the first time a network will attempt to share their story theatrically. In 2007, the pair partnered with VH1 for their reality series The Salt-N-Pepa Show to document what their lives had been like since they parted ways, but the series only last for one season.

The two women formed their supergroup in 1985, later replacing their third original member with Diedra "DJ Spinderella" Roper. Their hits "Push It," "Whatta Man," "Let's Talk About Sex," "None of Your Business," and "Champagne," were all nominated for Grammys, and in 1995 they took home the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group award for "None of Your Business." Their story is riddled with triumphs and failures, including Pepa's tumultuous marriage to Treach from Naughty By Nature as well as their personal and financial issues that caused them to disband.
