Even though Puff Daddy never officially graduated from Howard University when he was a student there back in 1989, the Revolt TV executive will be delivering the 2014 commencement speech at his alma mater this Spring.
Howard University confirmed Diddy’s involvement from their official website Monday afternoon. While some have praised Howard for giving the hip hop mogul the opportunity to share his insights with its senior class, others believe the honor should have gone to someone who was an actual college graduate.
However, Diddy’s involvement just doesn’t end with a commencement speech. Sean Combs will be among five people that will be receiving an honorary degree as well. He will receive an honorary doctorate in humanities at the convocation. Interim President Wayne A.I. Frederick says:
“In selecting the individuals who will be awarded honorary degrees, Howard University continues the tradition of identifying leaders whose work has clearly contributed to the advancement of their fields and the world. We are honored to have Mr. Combs serve as our speaker. He sat in classrooms where our students sit, walked ‘The Yard,’ and like many students, his entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard. We know he will inspire our class to work hard and to always strive for excellence.”
Howard University's graduation ceremony will take place on May 10th.
Do you think Diddy should give the speech?
