The Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018.

While hockey may not be the most popular sport in the United States, it definitely has its place amongst the top four sports leagues in North America. In 2018, Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals overcame the odds to break the hump and finally win a Stanley Cup. It was the first ever Cup win in the team's history and since then, the Capitals have gone on an extensive tour with their silver hardware. That tour finally came to the White House on Monday where the team got to meet President Donald Trump.

Unfortunately for the Capitals, unlike recent trips to the White House, the team missed out on one major piece to the White House visit puzzle: fast food. Yes that's right, unlike the Clemson Tigers before them, the President decided not to opt for a spread of burgers and fries.

TMZ Sports caught up with Capital superstar Nicklas Backstrom after the visit who said despite the lack of fast food, it was still a great visit.

"It was nice of him to invite us," Backstrom explained. "It was just nice to be there. We were happy about it."

What made the trip especially interesting is the fact that goaltender Braden Holtby elected not to go to the White House, stating that he wanted to take a stand against Trump and his policies.
