Several independent rap releases made their way on to the Billboard charts this past week, with Ab-Soul, RiFF RaFF and G-Eazy all dropping new albums in recent times. The debut numbers for each artist have arrived today, and G-Eazy's These Things Happen LP managed to come out on top of the others. Surprised or nah?
G-Eazy's new album nabbed at #3 debut on the Billboard 200, moving a respectable 46,000 units. Ab-Soul's These Days... moved less than half that, with under 22,000 copies sold opening week and a debut of #11 (you can compare this to Control System's opening week numbers in 2012: 5,300 copies). Finally, Riff Raff's Neon Icon debut album comes in at #22, moving 11,000 units. However, UK singer Ed Sheeran's X album outsold all these, with 210,000 copies.
