21 Savage was one of a few rappers (including Young Thug and Slim Jxmmi) who contributed ad-libs to Childish Gambino's Hot 100 No. 1 hit "This Is America." In an interview with Billboard at the BBMAs Sunday night, he revealed that he recorded the parts while in the studio with Childish. "Me and Childish just sat in the studio for like 6 hours -- we just talked the whole night, really," he said of the experience. Though he did not clarify, it sounds as if he and Childish made another track on top of "This Is America": "We made a song, and I did some ad-libs on that song." Unfortunately, there was no follow-up question about the material, so it's unclear if the Atlanta rapper was, in fact, talking about two separate songs from the session.
One thing that as clear is that 21 has been working on some new music with Pharrell, though he didn't give many details: "Hits, to be announced," he said of the material. 21's recent tweet about "Savage Summer" has fans expecting a new project, but he's yet to confirm what he's got planned.
When asked how he celebrated Post Malone's "Rockstar," on which he's featured, hitting No. 1 on the Hot 100, 21 couldn't recall exactly what he did, but figures he got drunk. According to him, he recorded the verse separately from Post: "I was on tour, so I just did it on tour."
