21 Savage properly (and quickly) propelled to rap's upper echelon once his joint album with Atlanta producer Metro Boomin was released. The project was his best to date; a succinct trip into the dark mind of 21 Savage, with paired down instrumentals to match. A cult-following for the dagger-tatted rapper has been building ever since, and just yesterday, the FADER unveiled their new magazine cover, of which 21 is the star.
In the cover story on the 24-year old, it's reported that 21 and Metro have a good 20-30 more records done together, which could possibly make up a second instalment of Savage Mode. Nothing has been formalized or announced officially yet, but it's a definite possibility.
In the story, Metro also speaks on why he fucks so heavily with 21 Savage. He reveals that the two had mutual friends, and thus crossed paths in the studio before 21 took up rap-- but once he did start to rap, he approached Metro Boomin about it. "It’s crazy, people try that with me every day," Metro says of 21's tactic. "But — I can’t even tell you all the way what it was — sometimes something just tells you to do shit."
Metro also told the magazine, "Rap’s way too friendly. That’s why I fuck with him — it’s not buddy buddy, with five, six niggas on every song. It’s ‘Fuck that nigga.’ If you ever see 21 Savage do a song with a rapper, it’s because he got paid the way he wanted to get paid."
