That escalated quickly.

Kristaps Porzingis met with Knicks brass on Thursday and reportedly "expressed concerns on the state of the franchise and his future with the organization." Hours later, the Knicks agreed to trade the 23-year old big man.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks have agreed to trade Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr, Trey Burke and Courtney Lee to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr, DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews. The news broke moments ago and Woj notes that there may be more draft picks included in the deal.

UPDATE:

Porzingis, who the Knicks selected 4th overall in 2015, was averaging a career-best 22.7 points per game last season before he went down with an ACL injury prior to the All-Star break.

He has not played this season, and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer. Shams Charania reports that KP will sign the qualifying offer in restricted free agency at season's end, which would make him an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

As a result of the trade, the Knicks will reportedly have roughly $75 million in cap space this summer, allowing them an opportunity to sign two max contracts.

The Knicks are currently sitting at the bottom of the NBA this season with a 10-40 record, while the Mavericks are 12th in the Western Conference at 23-27.
